APPLICATION OF MATERIAL SCIENCE TO BIOMATERIAL HERITAGE CONSERVATION:

  • Stimuli-responsive polymeric nanoparticles for controlled drug release.
  • Design of biomimetic surfaces with chemical and mechanical cell signalling. Smart surfaces.
  • Design and manufacture of scaffolds for bone and cartilage tissue regeneration.

POLYMERIC MATERIALS WITH INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS:

  • Design of high performance adhesives.
  • Study of the chemistry of vulcanisation.
  • Design of composites with controlled viscoelasticity.
  • Surface modification of fillers by cold plasma.

FUNCTIONAL MATERIALS:

  • New methods for obtaining polymer thin films (iCVD).
  • Polymers with high proton conductivity for fuel cell membranes.
  • Material for Rapid Manufacturing.

Tracheal stent: example of 3D printing applied to the healthcare industry (QuirofAM)

Within the framework of the QuirofAM project, the CIM center, the IQS GEMAT group and the Tractivus spin-off, have co-developed a 3D printer that allows printing of medical grade silicone for the manufacture of medical devices. As a first demonstrator, the researchers have developed a completely customized tracheal stent.
